S39 – Sarmiento triptych (Center)
$737,55
Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (February 15, 1811 – September 11, 1888) was an Argentine activist, intellectual, writer, statesman and the seventh President of Argentina. He represented democratic thought in opposition to the despotic Juan Manuel de Rosas. Both represent the extremes of historical fluctuations that alternately reigned in Argentina. We only have the centerpiece of this triptych. The other parts S40 and S41 were rejected and presumably destroyed. S43 and S44, which are revisions of these works, we unfortunately no longer have in our collection. This engraving was made between the 20th and 30th of July 1938, exact location is unknown but presumably Cordoba (Argentina).
