V285b – Berten Pil

Berten Pil (1892 – 1940) – his proper first name was Albert – was the son of a head teacher. Pil already wrote Flemish-minded brochures under the pseudonym of Jozef Brandt during his secondary studies at the Episcopal College in Ypres. He was a Doctor of Science and Flemish Nationalist, but is also known for his pioneering work at Agfa Gevaert in the field of color photography, fostering the advancement of photographic techniques. He became director of research at the company and – despite his Flemish nationalist identity – was even awarded the Knight of the Order of the Crown. On November 5, 1940, he died of lymph cancer at the age of 48.

This is one of the rare engravings in our collection that is NOT signed by Delhez. This work is in fair condition. We have a second one too that is in good condition and therefore slightly higher priced.
