E74 – Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem
$1.051,70
“Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written: “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” (John XII, 14 – 15)
Once again Delhez tries to project the event in time. Two movements can be seen in the building of the city. The first runs from left to right, from the Middle Ages to our time. The second runs from bottom to top, from the working-class neighborhood to the big city. In between the two lies the industrial city. The figure on the left represents the historical facts. The event on the right sets the stage among the humble people of today, who are the descendants of those who proclaimed Jesus king. They were also residents of the workers’ quarter of Jerusalem. We clearly notice a jubilee waving his palm, a workman with his wife, a young mother offering her baby and a children’s choir led by a priest.
This work was made in Totoral (Argentina) between the 7th of April and the 19th of October 1939.
