Gospel series

The gospel series was created between 1934 and 1948. The complete series counts 100 woodcut engravings and 2 extra engravings numbered as 45b and 97b. Numbers 1 to 44 were created in Bolivia (Cocaraya), numbers 45 to 48 in Chile, numbers 49 to 89 in Cordoba (Totoral), number 90 in Mendoza and numbers 91 to 100 (and 45b and 97b) in Chacras de Coria, Argentina.

The gospel series is an impressive series covering the four gospel accounts in the new testament, The gospel according to Matthew, the Gospel according to Mark, the gospel according to Luke and the gospel according to John.

On the product page of every engraving you can find more information about the engraving itself and to which gospel(s) it belongs. Each description starts with a phrase from the New Testament of the Christian Bible (the Gospels) referring to the work. All engravings in this series are preceded by the letter E from Evangelies which is Dutch for Gospels.

Next to the Book of Revelations series, the gospel series is one of the masterpieces of Victor Delhez and a very popular series. For that reason, the prices are also slightly higher than most other engravings.
