E53 – Jesus, his mother and brothers
€999,00
“Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew XII, 49 – 50)
In the left corner of the engraving we see Mary approaching on a donkey. She is very similar to the shouting woman in the center. When it is said that the mother and brothers of Jesus are there, all arms immediately turn to both women. Delhez drew them in black just to distinguish them from the crowd. The purpose of this is twofold, because in this way the woman who shouts also becomes the mother of Jesus and, on the other hand, the woman from the people is also a symbol of the Church, creative and fertile, just like Mary. If we look at this engraving without dissecting it, the interpretation may also be that the woman of the people refers to Jesus himself. The answer that Jesus gives in the biblical text gets a more clear explanation this way.
