E9 – Child murder

“When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.” (Matthew II, 16)

In this engraving we see a kind of reconstruction of the events in Bethlehem under a heavy sky. A legionary is going to attack a mother. On the second plan, we see events of heartlessness. Drunken soldiers come out of an inn singing. An idiot celebrates the robbery of the children by soldiers. A father anxiously waits for the soldier who killed his child to leave the house.

This work was made in Cocaraya (Bolivia) between the 11th of May and 8th of August 1934.
