E69 – On the way to Jerusalem

799,00

Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!” (Matthew XX, 17 – 19)

The landscape in this engraving is characterized by thorns and tracks that all lead to the crowned Jesus. The disputing apostles can also be considered thorns, and even around the head of Jesus something reminiscent of rising thorns is seen. Christ’s step reflects melancholy and resignation.

This work was made in Totoral (Argentina) between the 28th of June and the 18th of August 1939.
