E41 – Raising of Jairus’ daughter

999,00

When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him. After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. (Matthew IX, 23 – 25)

The full title of this engraving is: “Resurrection of the daughter of the superior Jairus”. Jairus was a patron or ruler of a Galilee synagogue, and he had asked Jesus to heal his 12-year-old daughter. A messenger came to tell that the girl died and Jesus went to Jairus’ house to speak the words ‘Little girl, I say to you, get up!. In this engraving, we see Jesus clutching the girl’s hand in his own hand, after which the miracle takes place.

This work was made in Cocaraya (Bolivia) between the 7th of and 23th of May 1937.
