E20 – Calling of the first apostles

“When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” (John I, 37 – 38)

In the upper left corner we see John the Baptist with his cross, he goes away, towards his martyrdom. Next to the tree are the apostles to whom Jesus had said, “I see you under the fig tree.” There are also fishermen to be seen. The entire foreground of this engraving is typically Bolivian.

This work was made in Cocaraya (Bolivia) between the 26th of January and the 22th of February 1935.
