E17 – Wedding at Cana

999,00

“Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.” (John II, 7 – 9)

A reconstruction of the events in Cana. Around Jesus we see three groups, the faithful, the wise and the virgin who represent the church. Delhez has placed the steward to hold the cup under the heart of Christ, but at a great distance, thus evoking the mystery of the wine in the second elevation, that of the cup of the New Testament. A child lurks behind the pillar, something we can also find in many other engravings in this series.

This work was made in Cocaraya (Bolivia) between the 29th of October and the 14th of December 1934.
