E36 – Resurrection of the son

999,00

“Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. (Luke VII, 14 – 15)

The full title of this engraving is: “Resurrection of the Son of the Widow of Nain.”

The boy has risen as commanded by Jesus. What he must have seen with body and soul is the Jesus figure who brought him back from the unknown. For this reason one sees the Jesus figure in both his eyes. Raising a dead person must appear both impressive and terrible and hence the unrest among the bystanders. The mother touches her son and weeps.
