E61 – The lunatic

499,00

Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.” “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” (Mark IX, 18 -19)

At the center of the engraving is a dog howling at the moon. That is quite logical because in the long lying s-shape at the ends are on the one hand the lunatic, who is restrained by a man in order to be able to hand him over to exorcists (including a priest) and on the other side Christ who bitterly is because of weak faith. The gestures of the crowd portray the different reactions. In the farthest one can see a kind of landscape with the moon.

This work was made in Totoral (Argentina) between the 1st and the 17th of April 1939.

This work is the only one in our collection of gospel engravings that has no signature from Delhez. Therefore, the price is lower than the other works in the gospel series.
