E73 – Anointing of Jesus

$1.083,16

Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. (Mark XIV, 9 – 10)

Delhez has placed the head of Christ in this engraving so that it could be that of a dead person. Judas is clearly visible to him. Jesus points to the poor, who could have been served by the values of the rich oils. This is a bit short-sighted in terms of grace, love and hope. You will always have arms, but not Jesus. For this reason, there is a great contrast between the hand of Mary (a restrained and generous movement) and the fist clutching the purse of the apostle community. Between the main characters is also Lazarus and two adjuncts visible. The opposition after the resurrection of Lazarus has taken root among the disciples. The betrayal is made possible.

This work was made in Totoral (Argentina) between the 7th and the 30th of September 1939.
