“Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!” (Matthew XXVI, 45 – 46)
The first plan shows a slow undulation. Three bodies can be seen in the silver moonlight, at the mercy of this undulation, seemingly cradling them to sleep. In the distance in front of the olive tree, Christ is praying anxiously. Above, like an arrow from a bow, the angel brings the cup of suffering, which according to the will of God and against the wish of Jesus that this cup should be removed from him, must be emptied to the bottom. He disappears among the constellations of the Southern Cross, the Lamb and the Lost Bread.
This work was made in Totoral (Argentina) between the 25th of November and the 25th of December 1939.
