FD56 – Marmeladov dies
$740,25
(Dostoyevsky Series 3 – Crime and Punishment)
“He recognized Sonia, humbly, in her cheap finery, waiting to say goodbye to her dying father.” Delhez made use of poetic freedom here. After all, Katharina appears twice in the engraving, once next to the dying person and a second time kneeling with her children. Instead of an Orthodox priest, one also notices a Roman Catholic priest. Delhez sometimes joked that Dostoyevsky probably wouldn’t blame him for the little tease.
This work was made in Chacras de Coria (Argentina) between the 28th of February and the 12th of May 1946.
