“At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.” (Luke I, 39 – 40)
Maria is beamed through because of her virginity. Zechariah appears from the house (reconstruction of a Roman residence) and personifies the Old Testament. There is a clear reference to the stone tables chiseled on above the door. In the mountains, John the Baptist pushes a stone aside from the way of Christ.
In fact the engraving shows a landscape around Tupiza in Bolivia. This work was made in Cocaraya (Bolivia) between the 7th of February and the 10th of March 1934.
