E65 – Lazarus, the beggar and the rich
$839,43
“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.” (Luke XVI, 22 – 23)
A mountain of stone, so organized to be habitable and the property of the rich, separates all from poor Lazarus, whom he envies from a hole in the stone road, resting high above him in the bosom of Abraham. The rich man is seen, when he still walked this world, entering the house with his wife from his chariot. Poor Lazarus asking for alms is flatly ignored. The mountain of dwellings points to today’s abstract wealth that sinks perhaps even deeper into sin than the personal wealth and harshness of the earlier years.
