E21 – Expulsion of an evil spirit

This engraving is the first of a series of three that actually belong together. This engraving deals with ‘the miracle man’, E27 (Cleaning of a leper) refers to ‘The Miracle of God’ and E32 (Healing the servant of the centurion) is connected to The Holy Spirit.
In this work we mainly see Jesus as a person who makes an effort with overly large hands that represent strength and virtue. The black spirit flees because without heaven it needs the body of a person in order to continue to exist. In this engraving we also see for the first time the figure (leaning against a column with crossed arms) that represents the contrast with the child, namely the old man.
This work was made in Cocaraya (Bolivia) between the 10th of February and the 21st of April 1935.
