E57 – The sign of Jonas
$841,15
“As the crowds increased, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” (Luke XI, 29)
With their fists clenched and their fingers raised, the Jews demand a sign. With an open hand and also a finger up, Jesus determines the sign that will be given to them, the sign of the resurrection after three days, just like the resurrection of Jonas after three days from the belly of the fish. In the center of the engraving is the head of the crucified Christ and the finger pointing at a sign. Jonah plunging into the fish’s mouth forms a triangle with the body of Jesus, the arms of the cross and the head of the fish. Even the waves do not escape the strict order of the engraving, however baroque they may appear.
